Dealing with cancer can present significant financial challenges. If you were working at time of diagnosis but are now unable to for the period of your treatment, you may be able to access your income protection insurance or if not able to return to work, a total and permanent disability insurance or gain assistance from your superannuation fund or Centrelink.

Need advice?

It is often hard to know where to ask for advice regarding financial support – a discussion with a general practitioner or an oncologist and a referral to a social worker is a good start. In Australia, many of the Cancer Councils offer pro bono financial advice and support. For more information about the Cancer Council support – click here or phone 131120
